Sharapova withdraws from the Rogers Open

 Maria Sharapova will not be taking any further part in the Rogers Open tournament as she has sustained a shoulder injury during the course of her second round win against Marta Domachowska on Wednesday. Sharapova had an MRI scan of her shoulder and is waiting for the results of the scan to decide on her future course of action. She has revealed that she will be taking part in the forthcoming Olympic Games once after seeing the results of the MRI scan. Sharapova’s fans are hoping that there is nothing wrong with her shoulder. There are a few more tickets left to be grabbed for the Rogers Open tournament.

Sharapova not to play grass court warm up games

The Russian super tennis player Maria Sharapova will not be featuring in any off the warm up tournaments before the Wimbledon Grand Slam championships for the first time in her illustrious career. Sharapova has proved her prowess on grass at Wimbledon for the past five years. She does not want to catch up on any injury playing in the warm up tournaments that might sideline her from competing in her favorite Grand Slam championship, the Wimbledon. Sharapova fans have already bought tickets to watch this tennis sensation romancing the courts at Wimbledon. The world number one women’s tennis player is determined to win the Wimbledon this year.

Serena gets the better of Sharapova

Maria Sharapova’s dream of clinching her second successive clay court title received a severe jolt when she was defeated by arch rival Serena Williams in the quarter finals of the Family Circle Cup on Friday. Serena improved her career record against the Russian blonde to 5-2 beat her in three sets with a score line of 7-5, 4-6, 6-1. Serena was able to really break free from the Sharapova shackles only in the third set and is well on course to claim her their successive tournament after winning at Bangalore as well as Miami.

 

Serena has showed some tremendous tennis skills this season and she has also received good reviews from current as well a ex-players for the same. Serena, who is currently number nine in the world, knows pretty well that her road to claiming the Family Circler Cup is now easy after the defeat of defending champion Jelena Jankovic by Russian Zvonareva.

Sharapova takes Russia to the Fed cup semi

After her successful stint at the Australian open, Maria Sharapova moved on with her fine form to win the first match at the Fed Cup in a convincing style. Sharapova defeated #2 player Tzipora Obziler from Israel 6-0, 6-4 to get a tie in 1 hour and 25 minutes. She finished her first set in 28 minutes with an ace. She had made 6 unforced errors in the first set. But the second set was more difficult as the ground support was to Obziler. Sharapova says that when the crowd supports her opponent she gets the drive to play even better.

By winning the second match at Fed Cup, Sharapova has secured Russia’s semi final berth in World group category. Her second match was against the Israeli #1 player Shahar Peer and Maria easily defeated her with the scores 6-1, 6-1 in 1 hour 14 minutes. Shahar Peer was undefeated for 11 times in the singles match of Fed Cup till her clash with Sharapova in Xinhua in Abu Dhabi. The second match was interesting as Maria took 5-1 lead and struggled to get the 6-1 win in 32 minutes. Though it was her debut in Fed Cup, Sharapova managed to win the matches in straight sets and in a very authentic way as well.

FED CUP IN FULL SWING

The Fed Cup is a tennis championship between women, which is equivalent to Davis Cup of men. It started in 1963, have 8 (World Group) with the total of 74. Russia have won the recent Fed Cup. This year Maria Sharapova has won Fed Cup debut match who won the Australian Open as well. Other Fed Cup news are Russia split with Israel in opening singles, while Spain and China 2-0 lead as of now. Sharapova defeated Tzip Obziler by 6-0 and 6-4. Shahar peer of Isreal came back from her first set pounding of 0-6 by Safina to over come her opponent in the next two sets by 6-2 and 6-2. After Sharapova was leading by 5-1 during the second set’s play after having won the first set but suddenly there was a change in the tide when Oblizer riding the support of 6000 patriotic fans won three games in succession. The crowd also started grunting like Sharapova to unsettle her. Sharapova said that she got really excited and anxious towards the end of the her maiden match at the Fed cup but the atmosphere and crowd brought out the best in her and she didn’t mind the imitation.
