Gasquet won’t skip Wimbledon due to hurt knee

Posted by admin on Tuesday 27 May 2008

Richard Gasquet, French tennis extraordinaire, is certain that his move to skip the French Open is a wise one as he is doing all he can to prepare for the grand Wimbledom tournaments. Gasquet, who is also honored as France’s best tennis player as well as the eight seeded player in the world, was commended for showing true grit and determination even though he was discovered to have a cyst located in his knee.  He had earlier requested officials to postpone his match to Tuesday due to a weakening left knee but the organizers did not heed his request. Gasquet’s doctor assured everyone that he will be in top shape after they remove the cyst and treat him with cortisone.

Betting Firms Win Legal Fight Against French Open Organizers

Posted by admin on Monday 28 April 2008

It all started when the organizers for the French Open thought that it was unsavory for online betting companies to offer bets pertaining to the Grand Slam tournaments. Then they issued a legal challenge to three major betting entities, namely bwin, Ladbrokes and Betfair to stop them from earning profits from bets taken based on the renowned tennis tournaments. Furthermore, if scandals pertaining to match fixings were to occur, it could spoil the name and value of the tournament. Bigwigs from the French Open also added that it was unethical to take bets and gain money from Roland Garros tennis matches. But earlier this week, a Liege court refuted their claim and said that these online betting firms did no wrong in offering bets and in fact did not violate rights of the French tennis association.

No updates about the pending actions that stems from the French Open organizers’ anger. The European Gaming & Betting Association sided with the online betting firms and said that they are professionals who operate ethically without committing fraudulent acts.
