Andy Roddick crashes out of Wimbledon

Andy Roddick was shown the exit doors of Wimbledon by Janko Tipsarevic, a Serbian, with a 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 loss in the second round match. This is the first time that Roddick has lost in a lesser round at the Lawn Tennis Championships. Janko put up a stupendous show of muscular tennis all through the match and matched the famed American point to point. Andy Roddick, visibly upset with this second round exit, said that he choked during the game and was not satisfied with his stroke play at all. As the first week end at Wimbledon will commence from today, there will be more fans buying tickets to grab a glimpse of their favorite tennis stars.

Federer beats Canas at Rome Masters; Roddick defeats Fish

Roger Federer is back to being the top performer in the tennis world after recently suffering a victory drought. In Tuesday’s match against his main rival Guillermo Canas, he scored an easy 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the second leg of the Rome Masters. Earlier on, a relieved Federer revealed that he was glad to be back on track, and that the past two months was tough on him and his game play.

On related news, another tennis favorite Andy Roddick managed to subdue his arch nemesis Mardy Fish with the score 6-1, 6-4 in the All-American matchup. To note, this was his second match on a clay court, after beating Jurgen Meizer last February during the Davis Cup matches.

Top players looking forward to Olympics

There is a lot of pride and money at stake for top tennis players in Grand Slam events, but that does not mean that these players do not have the lust for an Olympic gold. The pride to play for one’s country is a major thing that is bringing in many top players to the tennis event at the forthcoming Beijing Olympics. Andy Roddick of the U.S had earlier announced that he would skip the Beijing Olympics in a bid for the US Open title.

Many top men and women players see the Olympics event as important event in their 2008 tennis calendar. Maria Sharapova, the Australian Open champion, is very eager to compete in the Olympics event. Sharapova said that it was her dream to play in an Olympics tournament right from her childhood. Roger Federer, the world number one men’s tennis player and one who has received good reviews from most of the former players, is keen to contest in the 2008 Olympics event and is hoping to add an Olympic gold medal to his elaborate resume.

Roddick bag a win at the SAP open

Andy Roddick beat Radek Stepanek 6-4, 7-5 on 24 Feb. to clinch the SAP open. This is his third win of the top-seeded 25 year in a row. Roddick never had to face a break point as Stepanek could not match his booming serve. Roddick finished each set with an ace thereby winning his 24th title. At the very opening of the match Stepanek lost the serve and never quite managed to recover. During 5-all at the time of the third set, Andy Roddick struck two ground strokes and that settled the match in his favor.

Roddick was 4-0 against Stepanek. He had also defeated him last summer. By winning the SAP open Andy Roddick posted his first win of 2008. He served well in the second set of the game. He did not have any break points in the third set. Roddick remarked that he was happy with the way he played. He said that he was happy to be in form. Stepanek, on the other hand admitted that Roddick played just too well to give him a chance. Stepanek was on the lookout for his third title. He was a favorite among the fans and he played the match wearing the Joe Thornton sharks uniform.
