Andy Roddick was shown the exit doors of Wimbledon by Janko Tipsarevic, a Serbian, with a 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 loss in the second round match. This is the first time that Roddick has lost in a lesser round at the Lawn Tennis Championships. Janko put up a stupendous show of muscular tennis all through the match and matched the famed American point to point. Andy Roddick, visibly upset with this second round exit, said that he choked during the game and was not satisfied with his stroke play at all. As the first week end at Wimbledon will commence from today, there will be more fans buying tickets to grab a glimpse of their favorite tennis stars.

The Wimbledon Lawn tennis Championships is all set to begin today in London and all eyes are on the reigning men’s champion Roger Federer who is in pursuit of his sixth consecutive Wimbledon crown. There are plenty of rumors circulating in the media about his current form. There are also debates among many former players on whether he would be able to stamp his authority once more on his favorite grand slam event, the Wimbledon. Even though Federer has struggled with his form in the past few months, his fans are pretty confident of him lifting the Wimbledon title for the record sixth time and are buying tickets to watch their super hero in action.

The 2008 French Open champion Rafael Nadal got his bearing on the grass right as he bet Novak Djokovic in a thrilling two set to claim his first grass court title. Top seeded Nadal overcame the stiff challenge of Djokovic to win by a 7-6(6), 7-5 margin in front of a packed center court Sunday crowd. Nadal was overjoyed by claiming his first grass court championships victory and said that he was happy to win this tournament as he had to wade off the challenges of player s like Andy Roddick in the earlier rounds. Nadal is now focusing on making it big during the forthcoming Wimbledon championships and fans at London are buying tickets in a spree hoping to witness a Nadal- Federer final clash.

Roger Federer, the world’s number one tennis player, came up trumps in the final match of the Gerry Weber Open against Philipp Kohlschreiber virtue of a 6-3, 6-4 win and thereby won his 55th title of his career. Another amazing thing about this great tennis player is that his command over grass courts are so immaculate that he has so far won 59 consecutive games on grass. Federer was happy to clinch the tournament after a disappointing final defeat at the French Open by clay court king Rafael Nadal. Federer hopes to carry this form into the Wimbledon Championships and fans who had bought tickets in advance for the Wimbledon Championships will be in for some superlative performances by this great player.

Lleyton Hewitt, who has been a champ four times got off to a winning start at the London ATP tournament recently on June 9. The grasscourt at the Queen’s Club might have brought him luck as he effortlessly beat Brit Josh Goodall 6-4, 6-4 to advance further. He considered this match merely to be a warm up before Wimbledon happens and is glad to play on the green as opposed to the clay court last Sunday at the French Open. Hewitt managed to arrive in Round 3 in Paris without breaking a sweat even when he is still nursing a hip injury which is rapidly getting better according to his doctor.

The Russian tennis sensation Dinara Safina made a tremendous comeback from a set and 2-5 down to dethrone the number one seed player Maria Sharapova in a thrilling fourth round battle last Monday. The 13 seeded Russian entered into the last eight of the French Open virtue of a 6-7(6), 7-6(5), 6-2 epic fourth round match. This is Safina’s third win over Sharapova in six career meetings and was really pleased to have uprooted her fellow country woman. The dream of US tennis star Serena Williams of wining the French Open this year did not turn into a reality as she was easily beaten in the third round by Katrina Srebotnik 6-4, 6-4 in the third round. Serena showed very poor tennis form in the match and most of her overheads, volleys and forehands missed the target. This was the first time that Serena had to leave French Open so early. She was quick to admit that she missed easy shots when the chips were down. She was not in her usual groove in the match and Serena Williams’s fans who had bought tickets to watch her power tennis were a dejected lot.
