Anna Chakvetadze is Recovering from Robbery

Russian tennis star Anna Chakvetadze is recovering after being assaulted by masked men in her home in Moscow on Tuesday. Chakvetadze won four WTA Tour singles titles last year, which gave her almost £750,000 in the pocket. The masked bandits reportedly robbed the world No.6 tennis player of up to £100,000 worth of valuables. According to Russian tennis Chief Shamil Tarpishchev, 20-year-old Chakvetadze was not injured.

U.S. Beat Russian in Davis Cup with 3-0

It is the first time that the United States wins its Davis Cup since 1995 with a doubles victory over defending champion Russia on Saturday. Leading 2-0 in the best-of-5 final, the Americans’ powerful players Bob and Mike Bryan beat Nikolay Davydenko and Igor Andreev 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-2.

Ken McGregorThe 78-year old Ken McGregor, the winner of the Australian Open, who was member of 3 winning Davis Cup teams, died at his home in Australia, it was reported Sunday. The Melbourne Herald Sun wrote that Ken McGregor died Friday of cancer in Adelaide. McGregor won the open in ‘52, defeating Frank Sedgman. Ken McGregor and Frank Sedgman teamed up to win many double titles. Ken also starred in 2 other sports, Australian football and cricket

For all those who did not spend much time last weekend in front of TV, I’m shouting: We beat the Russians! The mission today is not to let the achievements of the Americans at the net go unnoticed. The Davis Cup couldn’t even beat out the popularity of the NHL. Too bad, though, because this is a truly nice story. The United States tennis players are finally back on top after a long drought since 1995, which became even longer than the Ryder Cup in golf.

Andy Murray And His Plans

Murray signaled his wish to employ a rotating squad of tennis experts after his split with Brad Gilbert. Britain’s No. 1 confirmed former Davis Cup player and fellow Maclagan would work with him in Florida for a 3-week period, which could be extended in case it turns out to be successful. Andy Murray insists his split with coach Brad Gilbert was not down to a clash of personalities. Yet he is determined to avoid any conflict in the new set-up.
